      Board Minutes - Newcomers 
and Friends

                                                Board Meeting Minutes : January 4, 2017

President Diane Millikin called the meeting to order at 1:08 pm with 16 members present.

She thanked Barbara Ferone for hosting on short notice. She also commented on how well the Christmas luncheon went, and thanked Carla Lewis for the efficient and successful opportunity drawing. Diane thanked Gwen Halstead for heading the toy drive and the impressive amount of toys which were donated. There are two orders of business: Diane is in the process of building the nominating committee which will be formed by the end of January. Interest sheets are available for signup and they will be passed out at the luncheon. Then the slate will be presented at the March luncheon.  We also need someone to host the May meeting.

Vice President – Nalini Amin: Nothing to report.

Minutes – Maggie Blanchard: The minutes of the December 7, 2016 board meeting were read and approved as read.

Treasurer - Kay Moioffer reported on the Income and Expenses of the Club. The report was approved and made available. A copy is attached to the minutes.

Luncheons – Joyce Brady reported that the February luncheon is at Black Angus. Price is $21.29. Motion to lower members cost to $21 was approved.

Membership – Janice Weiner stated that applications will be available through Millie Ginsburg, at all future luncheons.

Web Mistress – Barri Boren said updates are due by the 10th. Sandy Enerle has activated the Facebook page. Go to Facebook, search for Newcomers and Friends of Santa Clarita, and like the page in order to receive updates.

Activities – Barbara Ferone reported that the next game day is not set up yet.

Recruitment – Gwen Halstead said there was one new member at the Coffee Corner event at IHOP. The Signal is posting the notices more often, which is generating more interest. The next Coffee Corner is at Lily’s on Lyons Avenue.

- Barri asked about age trends in new membership. Gwen commented that she is seeing younger people coming in.

Auditor – Mikki Garside: Nothing to report.

Birthdays – Maggie Blanchard: Nothing to report.

Explorers – Diane reported in Donna Cerna’s absence. 9 out of 20 seats are reserved for the San Diego train trip. She will ask the conductor to sell the remaining tickets if needed.  There will be another train trip to San Juan Capistrano, in April

Historian – Diane reported in Kathy Kunkel’s absence. She still needs help with the scrapbook.

Hostesses – Jeannine Boren: Nothing to report.

Programs – Grace Elliott not present. Diane reminded us that the February luncheon theme is hats, and there will be no program guest.

-Barri asked about the date for the auction, because she needs to make sure she and Alyce are available to be the auctioneers. This program is scheduled for April.  

Decorations – Joyce Brady: Nothing to report.

Luncheon reservations – Mikki Garside said that the January luncheon is currently at 35 reservations.

Publicity – Gwen Halstead stated that the Signal’s new format may generate more interest in the club. 

Opportunity Drawing – Carla Lewis: Nothing to report.

Social – Diane reported in Pat Oguss’s absence. For the Party Fortune Teller, there will be craft activities set up while people wait. Pat needs fabric scissors. Muriel Usselman offered to provide a pair. Also, Pat will be calling people to help with the set up for Bachelorettes and Bullets.

Sunshine – Kitty Zimmerman was absent but Diane reported that she has sent out more cards.

Old business: None

New business: Kay has a big plastic container filled with colored cellophane which she is giving away.

Meeting adjourned at 1:46pm.
