Board Minutes - Newcomers and Friends of Santa Clarita

Minutes of the Board Meeting of May 7, 2014

President Nancy Andrews called the meeting to order at 1:10 p.m. She welcomed two non-board members, Carla Lewis and Jane Conklin, to the meeting.

The minutes of the April meeting were read and after correcting the balance in the treasury, were approved.

Trish reported that there is a positive balance in the treasury. Income for the month included membership dues for the upcoming year. She requested that all bills for this year be submitted prior to the end of the month. Old financial records were turned over to Jeanine who will go through them and then give them to Milly.

The May luncheon will be held at Robinson Ranch.

Donna Jones reported that there is a problem with Tournament Players Club having our luncheons on Wednesdays rather than Thursdays. As a result, it was necessary for the board to re-visit having the luncheon on the second Wednesday of the month. After discussion it was decided to return the luncheons to the second Thursday.

Janice Weiner is collecting dues for the coming year. Hard copies of the newsletter will no longer be mailed. It was suggested to have a friend print out the newsletter from the website if the member has not computer. She will be out of town periodically until June 1. Once the directories are completed, they will be mailed to members.

Donna Jones reported that the June luncheon will be at Tournament Players Club. The menu consists of breast of chicken Marsala, herb Parmesan Rigotti (rice), salad, rolls and butter, and brownies and cookies for dessert.

Since the smallest number of members attend luncheons in the summer, those luncheons will be held at restaurants, i.e., July - Backwoods Inn; August - New Moon (plated, not family style); and September - Claim Jumper. Claim Jumper can only accommodate 50 in their private dining room. Since they have a menu of 10 items, the member can choose her meal at the luncheon instead of prior to it. Other luncheons have been set up so far as follows: October - Robinson Ranch; November at Tournament Players Club with June Swiercz playing her Native American Flute; December at Robinson Ranch; and February at Le Chene. The remaining months will be announced as they are planned.

Alyce suggested we consider paying for programs or performers.

Jane Conklin would like to change the name of the group from “Vagabonds” to “Explorers”. She will plan day trips but not overnights. The first trip she has planned is a pot luck picnic at Summit Park on June 28.

The June board meeting, which is a combined meeting of the outgoing and incoming boards, will be held at Irene Jansson’s club house. Since it is a potluck lunch, a list was passed around to sign up for a particular dish.

Milly presented her ideas for informing members about events in the club and getting members to attend board meetings.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:35 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
