Board Minutes - Newcomers and Friends

Board Meeting June 3, 2015

Prior to Meeting start, old and new members were requested by President Jodie Baker to introduce themselves.

The meeting was called to order by President Jodie Baker at 1:20 pm with 32 persons in attendance.  The President commented that every person has a VOTE.  President will also attempt to keep Board meetings short and requests that reports be concise with time left after the report for comments and questions.  Further Executive Vice President Diane Millikin is traveling and not present.

Minutes - The Minutes of May 6, 2015 Board Meeting were read and approved as read.

Treasurer - Kay Moioffer reported.  The report was approved.

First Vice President, Nalini Amin, reported that the June luncheon will be at the New Moon Cafe with a cost of $20 for members who will include food, beverage, tax and tip.  President Jodie commented that a LOOM will be set up with an attendant -- at this luncheon for the purpose of each member contributing to the project to create a TAPESTRY OF FRIENDSHIP - which is the theme of this year's Presidency.

Further the July luncheon will be at Marie Calendar's (in the big room) with 3 meal choices and a slice of pie for dessert.  Cost is $15.29 but members will pay $15.00 and the Club will contribute the 29 cents.  The theme will be RED, WHITE and BLUE table linens in honor of the 4th of July national celebration.  The contract has been signed.

Membership - Janice Weiner reported the Club has 160 members with several new members.  The new Handbook of member addresses and telephone numbers will be available in approximately 2 weeks.

Webmistress - Bari Boren requested that everyone get their information for the web to her by the 10th of the month.

Activities - Sandy Nichols reminded everyone that the play "Westside Story" at 2:00 pm on June 20th -there are still a few tickets left.

Recruitment - Luana Law reported that the Coffee Corner gathering is on June 18th at Marie Calendar's.  She encouraged old members to attend to help bring new members into the Club.

Programs - Grace Elliott reported as follows:   July program featuring a magician, Tim Jenkins - Cost $100.  August program featuring Mayor Marsha McLean who will speak on her vision and programs for the City. - Cost - her lunch.  September will feature a Zodiac Fashion Show produced by President Jodie Baker. Cost - priceless.  October will feature the owners of the Santa Clarita Radio Station and website.  Cost - their lunch.

Pat Oguss reported that the Senior Leisure Olympics will be held at Diane Millikin's home on August 17th.  We need to provide for medals, certificates, beverages.

On Wednesday, September 16th at 11:00 am there will be a mystery lunch titled "Murder of the Beauty Queen".  The packet to put the event together costs $62 - it will be a potluck lunch and the dress code will be "Beauty Queen".  It will be limited to 24.

Holiday Cookie Exchange - December 12th at 1:00 pm at Pat Oguss home.  There will be a sing along at the piano (in her home) and each guest (limited to 24 persons) is to bring 3 dozen cookies for exchange.  Coffee and tea will be available.

Birthdays - Trish Mooring proposed that a birthday certificate worth $5 to be used to apply to the cost of a NC&F lunch- with an expiration date of one year, be the birthday gift.  Motion was made, seconded and unanimously approved.

Comments - Club Job Descriptions need to be updated and potential Board Members should be directed to the website so that new members can be prepared for their assignments.  Further - the Nominating Committee should update the Job Descriptions.

New Business - Millie Ginsburg stated that this is the 31st year of the Club's founding.  They have arranged for a Princess Cruise (cost dependent on cabin location) for members and their companion if applicable, to depart on April 2, 2016 and going North for 7 days.  Ports of Call for all day excursions are Santa Barbara; Ensenada; and San Diego with an optional tour in San Francisco.  A deposit of $250 is due 90 days from June 3rd and final payment is due December 1st.  Included in the price is trip insurance, bus to and from port, side trips, taxes and tips.  More information with prices will be forthcoming.
