Board Minutes - Newcomers and Friends

Board Meeting August 5, 2015


The meeting was called to order at 1:15 p.m. by President Jodie Baker with 18 members and 1 guest present.

President Baker commented that the planned events of the Club are well attended and have had a good response.  The Tapestry Loom is available for continuing contributions.  Please add your ribbon design if you have not already done so.  Activities Chair, Sandy Nichols is experiencing medical problems - a "Thinking of You" card to her would be appreciated.  Also Margaret Gilmore had knee surgery on July 1st.  Treasurer, Kay Moioffer is on vacation.

Minutes - The Minutes of the July 1, 2015 Board Meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer -
Donna Jones on behalf of vacationing Kay Moioffer reported on the Income and Expense of the Club.  A new credit card has been issued for the NC&F Treasurer.  Also the deposit has been made to the Paseo Club for the August Luncheon. The report  was made available and a copy is attached to these minutes.  The report was approved.

A motion was made and seconded that the President's Memory Book expense come out of the 2014-2015 Budget.  The motion was passed unanimously.

Luncheons -
First Vice President, Nalini Amin reported that the August luncheon is set at the Paseo Club.. The September 10th luncheon will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn with an Italian themed lunch at a cost of $21 per person  and will feature a Zodiac Show.  There will be round tables of 8 with a center aisle left open for the Zodiac models.

The proposed October luncheon will be at Rattlers Restaurant and will consist of a choice of baby back ribs (4), tri tip on a french roll, or chicken with a cost of $17 or $18 per person with beverages and dessert of blackout chocolate cake..  A motion was made and seconded to contract with Rattlers for the October luncheon.  The motion was unanimously passed.

Comment on the August Luncheon:  there will be 13 new NC&F members present.  It was agreed that the speaker, Mayor Marsha McLean, should be given a corsage.  The new members would be introduced so they could be acknowledged and welcomed.  Then a discussion of Hostess duties and seating proceeded.  Jeannine heads the Hostess Committee.  Gwen Halstead suggested that new members be designated with a lei or floral corsage.

The December luncheon will be held on December 10th.

On behalf of absent Sandy Nichols, President Jodie Baker opened her residence swimming pool for NC&F members to come for water aerobics three times per week for 1/2 hour time.  Please call Jodie in advance to reserve your day and space. 

The Coffee Corner gathering in July at Mimi's Cafe went well with 10 ladies in attendance.  The August 20th Coffee Corner will be at Kathy's Deli at 10 am.  Donna Jones will attend.

Bari Boren reported that the contract with Go Daddy for the NC&F website needs to be renewed.  A motion was made, seconded and unanimously passed that the contract be renewed for the 2016-2017 year.

Programs -
Grace Elliott was absent.  President Jodie announced that all the models for the Zodiac show have been recruited.  There will be two models for the sign GEMINI as that is the "twin" sign.  Diane Milliken is creating the program for the September ZODIAC show.  Discussion was had on advertising in the local newspapers.  Gwen Halstead commented that the information should come under Community Activity in both the Signal and Santa Clarita Newspapers.

Pat Oguss reported that there is a full roster for the Senior Leisure Olympics  to be held at Diane Millikin's home on August 17th at 10:30 am. 

On Wednesday, September 16th at 11:00 am there will be a mystery lunch titled "Murder of the Beauty Queen".  It will be a potluck lunch and the dress code will be "Beauty Queen".  The roster is full for the event.

The December 12th Cookie Exchange will be held at the home of President Jodie Baker at 1:00 pm.  Please bring a small sign for cookies that contain NUTS - and include the recipes for all the cookies brought to the exchange event.

Cruise Report  "
Friends A Cruisin' ".  The cruise information is on the website and the Cruise Committee is hard at work.

Discussion ensued about what mystery would be chosen and purchased for use on the cruise.  It was moved and seconded that "Ravenswood Masquerade and Murder" should be purchased and used on the cruise.  Motion passed unanimously.

As a note - a new member has the name "Donna" - so the 2 Donnas agreed that Donna Jones will be Donna Sr. and new member Donna will be Donna Jr.

No further business came before the meeting.
