Board Minutes - 10/12

Minutes of the Meeting of October 3, 2012

The meeting was called to order by President Donna Jones at the home of Nalini Amin at 1 p.m.

Minutes of the meeting of September 5th  were read and approved.

Donna announced that the community project was not going to go forward because the speaker indicated that the majority of his speech concerned the items he would have for sale.

Patti Finley will entertain for the December luncheon.  Her program will be about 20 to 30 minutes after lunch.

A panel was chosen to judge the costumes at the October luncheon.  So far there are 25 reservations.  Luana, Alyce and Carla volunteered to be judges.  The judges’ decisions will be final.  Three prizes of $10 each were approved by the board.

Irene reported that we now have 164 members.

Trish reported balance in the treasury.

Mikki got a one month credit of $89.99 for a glitch in the website system caused by Go Daddy.  The by-laws were published against this credit at no expense to us.

Laurie Prince will call all group leaders to assure that all participants are paid members of Newcomers.  Carla had one training for hand and foot and will have one more before forming groups.  A game day will be planned for after the first of the year.

Carolyn Wolf reported that there were 5 at the last coffee.  The number was low because many were involved in the Queen Mary trip on the same day.

New member Kathy suggested that members greet new members and help to find them a place to sit at the luncheons.  Alyce suggested a ribbon to be attached to their badges to identify them as new members.  Each month, two board members will be assigned to sit with the new members to make them feel more comfortable.  Gia and Karen Fine will take October, Margaret and Nancy, November and Carla and Donna December.

Alyce reported that the Vagabonds trip to San Diego has had to be cancelled due to poor showing of ladies interested.  Gia will return checks to those who have reserved a spot.

The revised by-laws were approved by the general membership at the September luncheon.

Gwen reported that she turned in an article about Newcomers to The Signal, but has not heard back from them.  It was suggested that she contact The Signal to see if they have a speaker we could have at a luncheon.

Carla reported that the Sunshine committee sent out two get well cards.  A card will be sent to Myrna Picard who is moving.  The passing of long time member Helen Gurwitz Saltzman on September 8 in New Jersey was noted.

The board meeting for November will be held at Sandi Cates’ clubhouse.  December’s meeting will be at the home of Shirley Lamoureaux at 12 p.m as it is the board’s pot luck meeting to celebrate the holidays.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:20.

Respectfully submitted,
