Monthly Updates - January 2014

Happy New Year!  May it be a happy and healthy one for all of us.  It is time to think 'what can I do for the club next year.'  Well, we are looking forward to the next new president and her slate of officers.  Your contribution is to get on board with new ideas, new activities and new exciting programs. Your input is so important for our club to enjoy another successful year.

My thoughts today are, when all things are said and done, friends bring meaning to our daily lives.  It improves our health and it brings enjoyment to our being.  Friends make us feel special when there are days when we need that encouragement.  I thank all of you for giving me that strength.

  Milly Ginsburgh, President

"Where one N

ewcomer's unloved stuff is                                another Newcomer's treasure."

'Whoa Nelly', join us for a relaxing, fun and casual 'Bruncheon' and make some money, honey!  Yes, TPC allows us to wear denim, tennies and track suits to this event. Put the bling away! There may even be a prize for
the best/silly outfit... The holidays are over, so come have fun with your crazy auctioneers Alice and Barri as they try to make you sorta semi-rich! You probably could even earn enough to pay for your brunch!

Just bring no more than 3 of those new, unused and unloved gifts you received or Antique/Collectible items of 25 years and older for Alice and Barri to auction off and take home some moolah! You get to keep all the dough, loot, green stuff, wampum, big bucks and bread your item sells for!!! Easy peasy!

At TPC, you will fill out an info card with the your name,
item name, item details and your starting bid. We will not
sell it for less than the starting price and, alas, it may not
sell at all, (boo hoo hoo). Alice, Barri and their crew, horde, bevy and posse of happy delirious helpers will be doing their best to boost the bidding!

Don't forget to bring lots of cash and/or your checkbook, no credit cards, to pay for the treasures you win! You will pay the seller directly for your item.

Be there or be poor! You won't want to miss the laughs, flippant repartee and silliness!

Make your reservations by Sunday, January 4th!!!  Do Not bring 'Opportunity Drawing' gifts, due to time constraints this month we will do a cash only Drawing! Just buy tickets to win cold hard greenbacks!!! See Luncheon section for details and reservation info.

Double WOW, WOW girlfriends --

Six (6) storage bins, a 3' bag, and one (1) large shopping bag filled with toiletries were
delivered to "Domestic Violence" donated by our individual members and their friends and neighbors.  Then, all the food donations went to "Help the Children"  and refilled their sparsely stocked shelves. Your generous donations of over 50 toys went to the Sheriff's office for 'Toys for Tots'!

Another heartfelt "gift of giving" to those in need in our community and all are so appreciated.  They were recieved with awe and thankful
Y'all are great!

**News & Notes

*** Our very special Holiday Celebration was held at Le Chene. Patty Finley and two of
her stars from CTG entertained us with a reading of 'The Grinch that stole Christmas' and singing classic Christmas songs. Everyone got a great cardio workout singing the 'Twelve Days of Christmas' in rounds. Then the Tea Ladies sang a Christmas Carol for us. Jeannine Boren decorated the tables with beautiful Christmas Red roses that were then raffled off to lucky ladies. Le Chene served a delicious feast to all. A special time with special friends to celebrate the holiday season!

Please note that our Board meeting and Luncheon will be held back to back the 1st week after New Year's! And yes, we will hold our 3rd Annual Auction with Alyce and Barri's craziness in trying to make you some money!

Jodie Baker hosted another beautiful Holiday Tea at her home.  There were three tables of guests, and each group delighted (?) one another by singing a Christmas song of their choice for the other guests, and then we all sang Silent Night together.  It was a very touching moment.

The guests shared stories about their favorite Christmas or Hanukkah moments, as well as their favorite Holiday gifts.  We heard about the much longed for bicycle finally arriving (or not), receiving a much wanted doll along with a wardrobe full of wonderful clothes for the doll made by the little girl's mother, and the wonder of watching a grandchild open presents at her first Christmas. There were some tears and much laughter, and it was truly a wonderful afternoon.

We welcome all of you to attend our future Teas, and are looking for some hostesses for the 2015 year. If you are interested in attending and/or hostessing a Tea, please let Janice Weiner know via email or phone.  Sign up sheets will be available at Board meetings, Luncheons, and Teas.

*** After several years as Founder and Chair of the Tea Group, Jodie Baker is turning the reins over to Janice Weiner who has been her co-chair for the last year.  Jodie has expressed mixed emotions at lessening her responsibilities,
but plans to spend a little more time with her family, and travel a little more with her husband, Jack.

Jodie has made us wrack our brains for answers to questions on topics such as famous duos, extraordinary black and white things, and Holiday trivia.  She has gotten us to laugh, amaze ourselves at the knowledge and skills we possess,
and share chapters of our personal stories with one another that we might not otherwise have done.

Jodie always quietly encourages us to be all that we can be and to try new
things and explore outside out comfort zones.  She demonstrates every day
what a true friend is.

Jodie will continue to host an occasional Tea and be a frequent guest at others.

The Teas are held on the second Tuesday of every month.  We are always looking for more hostesses as well as co-hostesses, and welcome you all to attend.  You can sign up at Board meetings, luncheons, and by contacting
Janice Weiner via email or phone.  661-255-1619

We appreciate all your work in starting and growing this activity for Newcomers
& Friends!  Thank you Jodie, for all of the smiles, laughs, and hugs you have shared and will continue to share with us!

The guest lists fill up quickly, so please contact me as early as possible. We will place names on a waiting list when necessary.
