MONTHLY UPDATE -  MARCH  2016

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hi all, It has been a hectic ride for the last two weeks of December and the first week of January.  However, things are beginning to shape up. Thank you a hundred thousand times to my board for all the help they have been. Bravo!

Now as February is here, I and my assistants are hard at work on the February Luncheon event.  So many members have jumped right in to be a part of this surprise.  We are putting together a Paris style Fashion Show with a California touch.  This will be a fabulous, flirty, fun afternoon featuring the Newcomers and Friends very own Valentine Girls.  There will be surprises galore.  Don’t miss it.

Soon we will be recruiting 8 to 10 members to take part on the nominating committee.  Please let me know if you are interested in doing this.  It is a step toward the election of the 2016-2017 board members.  I applaud our members for the positive response to the interest sheets that were passed out to all at the luncheon.  We still need a few more recruits, so call me for information on this.

Keep reading to find out more about the February Luncheon Extraordinaire!

Ladies, we invite you to the February Valentine’s Day Luncheon

on

Thursday, February 11th at 12 o’clock Noon

at

the Hilton Garden Inn

The Valentine Girls Fashion Show will be presented for your entertainment and enjoyment.  Be surprised, be amazed. This is not your ordinary fashion show.

Happy for the rain and glad there is all of you,

JANUARY LUNCHEON AND GENERAL MEETING

What a fun time we had at our January Luncheon and General Meeting! It was great to relax, catch up with our friend’s holiday happenings and enjoy a delicious meal at Marie Callender’s. Then we were entertained and made a little/lot of money when Barri Boren and her auction team sold items brought in by the ladies. She kept up a hilarious dialogue along with encouraging the bidding to go up and up. Biggest winning bid was $95 for a new Maj Jong set! Among the wide variety of items sold was Godiva Chocolate Liqueur, several bottles of wine, throws, jewelry, shoes, fancy flip flops, antique linens, scarves and clothing items. Barri says thank you very much to everyone who brought items and those that bid on and bought them!  She especially thanks Alyce Kesselman, Sharon Welch, Diane Millikin, Ann Pfeiffer and Muriel Usselman for their hard work helping conduct the auction!

See you at the February Luncheon and General Meeting featuring the Valentine Girls Fashion Show!

Tea Ladies

The January Tea, at Kay Moioffer's home, celebrated Chinese New Year. The tables were beautiful, the food excellent, as usual, we learned some things about Chinese New Year, and a great time was had by all. Kay's tables featured the color red, which we were all asked to wear for good luck. The food included pot stickers, and excellent chocolate covered fortune cookies. We got to test our knowledge with a short quiz about the New Year (which begins in February.) Do you know what the legend is behind using firecrackers to celebrate Chinese New year, or what is typically made of silk, paper, and bamboo, and is the highlight of the traditional lantern festival?

Come and join us for Tea this year. You can sign up any time, as I have guests lists for all of the Teas through 2016. Please contact me ASAP, as they are filling up fast. Email is best:

Thanks,

Janice
