TWEAKING THE BY LAWS

At the March Board Meeting, the first “tweaking of the by-laws “ was completed.   We are now busy making the revisions which were discussed and simplifying the old wording when possible. In April, we will discuss A NEW ARTICLE -- Article 15— to deal with some of the issues that have not been previously covered. Suggestions are:  ARTICLE  151: Adherence to By-Laws; If a by-law has been violated by a member, the President may convene the Executive Board (with or without the offending member) to discuss the situation.  Membership may be denied to or removed from a member by a majority vote of the Executive Board.

If an officer, chairperson or committee member has violated the  by-laws or not fulfilled her office as required, the President may convene the Executive Board (including or excluding the member as appropriate) to discuss the situation.  The member may be removed from her position by a majority vote of the Executive Board.

2: Use of Directory;  The Membership Directory is for the exclusive use of the members of Newcomers and Friends of Santa Clarita and is not to be used by members for solicitations, advertising or mailings. To protect the privacy of our members, members are forbidden to give the Directory to any person or business for such purposes.

We anticipate covering these issues in April and will be able to put the proposed new By-laws together for a last review (and discussion, if any) from the Board at the May meeting.  After getting the anticipated vote of approval from the board, we will be ready to bring the new by-laws to the entire membership for a vote.
By-laws------ both proposed and finalized will be on the website when they are ready.  At that time, we hope you will print them out to review at your leisure!!! Please contact us asap if you have any changes to suggest.  We want to know if you think we have left out, misheard or misinterpreted anything you said!!! EVEN BETTER, Join us at the April Board Meeting for what we know will be yet another lively discussion. Thanks to all of you who have patiently been helping us to get this job done!

Alyce Kesselman and Marlene “Mikki” Garside

The March Luncheon was held at Olive Terrrace Cafe and
they treated us to a veritable Mediterranean feast! The slate of nominations for the 2015-2016 Board was presented and unanimously elected. Jodie Baker and her cowgirl sidekicks showed off their 'Boots & Bling' fashions to inspire us to dress western for the April Luncheon! Jeannine presented little 'pots of gold' filled with treats in celebration of St. Patrick's Day.

Upcoming General Meeting & Luncheons

TEA LADIES

We celebrated Spring and St. Patrick's Day at this month's Tea, which was hosted by Kitty Zimmerman. She invited her guests to wear green, and wear it we did. She welcomed us with her Irish lilt, and the fun never stopped. We talked about foods that we grew up with and found that we enjoyed enchiladas, pasties and plum pudding, among others. The potato, coincidentally, featured a role in many of the dishes we discussed. Thank you, Kitty, for a wonderful time.

You can call me, email me, sign up at a Tea, a Board Meeting, or at a Luncheon.  Email is best, but know that I will confirm with you that I have received your message how ever I receive it!

As always, Teas are open to any member of Newcomers, and I have sign-up sheets for all of 2015.  They are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, at 1:00 p.m.  Several of the Guest Lists are full, but I always keep a waiting list in case of any cancellations.  Please contact me via email, phone, at a Tea, at a Luncheon or at a Board Meeting if you are interested in attending. Email works best.   jmw2kdsdog2@yahoo.com       661-255-1619
Thank you.
