We had approximately 30 ladies join us for our Ice Cream Social at the end of June.  We enjoyed ice cream with a multitude of toppings and cookies.  We played two ice cream themed games and our winners were Sharon Welch, Margaret Gilmore, Donna Cerna and Nalini Amin.  Many thanks to the ladies that came early and helped with set up, decorating and ice cream scooping:  Kitty Zimmerman, Barbara Ferone, Muriel Usselman, Jeannine Boren, Barri Boren, Nalini Amin and Sharon Welch.  And an additional thanks to the ladies that pitched in to help with cleanup and putting away the chairs!  It was a fun afternoon filled with laughter and friendship!

Mexican Train Dominoes

You are invited to join us for a fun, social game of 'Mexican Train Dominoes'. Open to all members! We play the second Friday every month!

This is the only game currently available to "Newcomers & Friends" that does not require a monthly commitment or RSVP and is open to all members. Come whenever you’re available. Dominoes is a fun, but simple game that you can learn in a few minutes and play right away.

This game is held at the IHOP restaurant which is located on Lyons, near the I-5 freeway. We start playing at 10:30 am and take a break around noon to order lunch and eat together.

We play till about 2 pm. If you are a new member, this is a great way to start getting involved with your Club and to meet new friends. If you are a long time member, come have fun with old and new friends. We would love to have you.

Please contact me at 661-670-0395 with any questions.

Unfortunately we have lost two long time members in the past few weeks:

Marge Eveland  (12/29/1935 – 7/1/2017)

Marge and her husband Willie married in 1953 and lived in Torrance for 13 years. He joined the Los Angeles City Fire Department and was assigned to San Fernando Valley, which is when they moved to Santa Clarita. Marge joined Newcomers around 1986. Her neighbor, Sharon Welch, introduced her to the club after she retired from Whittaker Federal Credit Union.

In the past, Marge had been an active Board member helping publish and mail the Newcomers newsletter. Her favorite activities were bunco, travel, and the monthly luncheons. The club has meant a lot to her over the years; it has allowed her to meet ladies that are now good friends.

Marge’s husband is now retired LACFD. They have 3 children, 6 grandkids and 4 great grandkids. In her spare time she liked to go to the desert and camp with friends. They also belonged to the Rover Motorcycle Club, District 37 Off Road and Willie used to race motorcycles!

She says the best places she traveled were everywhere the Vagabonds, now known as the Explorers, took the Newcomers: Hearst Castle, Indio Date Festival, etc

Service was held at Eternal Valley on July 15th.

We also lost long time member Kay DeMuniz sometime in the past weeks but no other details are known. Kay served as a Board member. She liked puzzles and was active in a Red Had group. She is survived by a daughter.

Our condolences to both family’s, they will be dearly missed! My they rest in peace.

She's sick/ down in dumps/ family news joyful or sad
recovering from physical ailment/ just plain needs a
boost---we can help just call Kitty Z., Sunshine co-ordinator.

Life is always better when you know someone cares!

What good shall I do this day?

Happy Birthday to all our special ladies!

Come to the monthly Luncheon & General Meeting
and you will receive a special gift!
