October Monthly Updates - 10/10

Monthly Updates October 2010

President’s Letter

Hi Dear Members:

This is my favorite month - because it is my Birthday Month and being a Scorpio (Horoscope assignment) - I try to be very good to myself for the whole month.  So I will only inhale positive thoughts.  This is the beginning of Fall/Autumn also a favorite of mine because the Midwest is so gorgeous with the color change of the whole area - the sight is spectacular!!!

We had a guest singer at the Valencia Country Club for our September Luncheon which brought a few tears of remembrance for our members.  Delightful!

Our first Club Social was a success - a great time has had by all who attended - camaraderie shared.
Thank you to Noreen, Carol and Gary Trenda, and Kay and Tom Moioffer.  It could not have happened without you.

Don't forget to buy your CANDY for Halloween - then leftovers can be donated.

Thought to be shared - "make the rest of the year the best you can - because we are all passing through and we do not get a second chance".      HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!   WEAR ORANGE
ALL MONTH!

SEPTEMBER SOCIAL
A good time was had by all. Kudos for Kay and Tom Moioffer and Carol and Gary Trenda.  What great host and hostesses. Everyone came through. The appetizers and desserts were wonderful. Raj Amin is the champion of “Minute To Win It” Ginger Freed and Rick Bolanos were the trivia champions.  Last but not least, a big “Thank You” to my committee.

Sorry, there will be no Holiday Party, as no one came forward to donate a home.

Announcing a unique Holiday experience!!

On WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2010 we will be taking a step back in time as we revisit the Good Old Days.

First, we will indulge in a delicious lunch at an award winning, upscale, American restaurant.  Established in 1966, it has just recently undergone a “face-lift” and is ready once again to delight discerning diners.  We hear that the location, overlooking the Pacific Ocean with a view of Catalina Island, is gorgeous and will provide the perfect place for the beginning of our holiday happening.

Next, we will head for the historic Old Town Music Hall where we will have an entertainment filled afternoon.   The Music Hall is a restored vintage 1919 theatre and it is home to both a 9 foot Bosendorfer grand piano and a “Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ”.  We will be hearing short concerts on both, have a holiday sing-along and then view some short silent comedies followed by a great old movie.

This is a day designed for fun, nostalgia, and leisure.   You owe it to yourself to take a break from the frenzy of Holiday shopping and preparations.  Sign up NOW to be part of an incredible day when all you have to do is to relax and enjoy!

We will be leaving Santa Clarita mid morning and return before dinner. The cost of the trip is $75.00 which includes transportation, tips, lunch, the afternoon of entertainment in the Music Hall and whatever else the Vagabonds can dream up!

There is a minimum/maximum number for this adventure.  We must have exactly Forty, no more or no less.  You know the drill!!!!   If you are wise enough to want “in”—let us know NOW.

Call Giovanna Caberet right away and tell her you are going and that you have put your check, made out to her, in the mail. (or hand it to her ASAP).

CHOCOLATE TRIP –IT MAY NOT BE TOO LATE TO JOIN!!!
If you have signed up for the OCTOBER 28, 2010 decadent, Chocoholics Tour of Los Angeles our coach will be waiting for us at the 24 hour Wal-Mart on Carl Boyer Drive.  Please park on the far right (grocery side) towards the back.   We will be boarding at 7:50 AM sharp (no need to get there too early because boarding order will be by a sweet “vagabonds scheme,” as usual.)

Our morning includes a stop at a tea room for a chocolate chai tea and wonderful chocolate cake and a visit to find and taste some exceptionally delicious Belgian chocolate.  After lunch inside a 1920’s replica of a 17th century French Chateau we will be welcomed by cloistered Dominican nuns to their Monastery where they make divine confections.  Later in the afternoon we visit a 56-year old small chocolate factory where chocolate and fruit items are still made the old fashioned way—by hand.

Even if you are on a diet you can still come and participate in this incredible day. You will be able to enjoy all the experiences and can bring your samples home for another time (or person). We are maintaining a waiting list.  Please call and send your non refundable check for $89.00 to Giovanna Cabaret.

Sunshine

We happy to hear that Judy Dahms is home and is expected to have a full recovery from her surgery.  We would like to wish her a speedy recovery.

We are happy to hear that Sandi Owens is home from the hospital after her surgery.  We wish her a speedy recovery and hope to see her soon.

If you or anyone your know has a special celebration or an illness, please send the information to our Sunshine chairperson, Charlotte Pitts, so that she can send them a card and include them in our monthly updates. These sentences are to remain in this topic area every month.
