President’s Letter

September 2011

Once again the Valencia Country Club did a wonderful job with the presentation and service for the September luncheon.

Karen Fine and The Singing Sisters, Alyce Kesselman, Grace Elliott, Nalini Amin, Milly Ginsburgh, Gia Cabaret, and Sue McMichael, provided us with a delightful performance of songs we all loved. The sing along was a rousing good time.
Grace Elliott did an exceptional job of creating a visual of the songs we sang.  A big hand for Grace!  Thank you ladies for a wonderful afternoon of entertainment.

Karen Forte is stepping down from the Historian position, a job she certainly excelled at, so thank you Karen and we will miss all your work on the scrap books and albums.  Margaret Gilmer has stepped up to take over the Historian position and is looking for a volunteer to help her with this project.  If you are interested, please contact me at 661 702 1877.

Grace Elliott donated a booth at the annual Boutique of the Elks Club, on Sierra Highway October 1st between the hours of 7:30A.M.-4:oo.P.M.  We will be handing out information on the different activities and events of Newcomers and Friends.  Anyone interested in helping with the booth please contact me at my home number, looking forward to seeing you there.

I would like to thank each and every one of our board members for their outstanding job helping make my job so much easier, a big thanks to all you!

Looking forward to the cooler days of autumn and the glorious color fall brings. Enjoy this beautiful time of the year.

Carol Maul

From Shirley Birnholz, Activities Chairman:

Thanks to all the gracious hostesses and chairpersons who are responsible for making the games and activities possible - and so enjoyable.

"If you are going to gain anything in life, gain a friend, they will always be there, and that makes all the difference in the world."
                                 Happy gaming....  Shirley

THE COFFEE CORNER will be held on Thursday, October 20th at 10:00 a.m.  Call Carolyn Wolf or Shirley Lamoureaux for location.

SOCIAL CLUB OUTING

Your hostesses, Shirley Lamoureaux, Lois Silverman, and Grace Elliott want to thank all of you who attended our August outing to the Hollywood Museum.

We had a very informative one and ½ hour guided tour through the museum. After the tour we enjoyed a leisurely lunch at the Pizza Kitchen in the Kodak Mall.

Thanks again for participating, hope you all had fun.

Our October outing to the sheriff's crime lab is limited to 26 people.  The trip was met with such enthusiasm when presented at the August luncheon, that all the spots have been filled.

Keep watching the newsletter and website for our next outing, which will probably be sometime after the first of the year. It's in the planning stages now.  We plan these events for you, so we really appreciate your feedback and continuing participation.

CLUB TEA PARTIES

Ladies, the tea group reports that all of the "chairs" for the teas are filled thru November.  However, we occasionally have a spot open up due to illness, etc.  So if you decide at the last minute that you can attend, call the reservation person to see if a "chair" is available. September is completely filled but, November could have a cancellation during the next months.
                                    Thanks, Jodie Baker

VAGABONDS

Giovanna Cabaret, Alyce Kesselman, Sharon Welch

IT’S TIME FOR OUR FALL FLING
This information is for the lucky Newcomers and Friends who have opted to go on this exciting trip and have confirmed reservations.

Our coach will be waiting for us in the parking lot of the 24 hour Wal-Mart on Carl Boyer Drive.  Please park on the far right (grocery side) towards the back.   We will be boarding at 8:10 AM sharp on Thursday, October 20.

DO NOT ARRIVE TOO EARLY because we will all be boarding by yet another “vagabonds scheme” and you will not be able to board the bus early or put your luggage on the bus before 8:00 AM.  We will board the bus promptly and leave at 8:15 AM SHARP.   Set TWO alarm clocks if you need them!!!.  In order to be fair to those going and to be able to stick to our schedule, we will not wait for Latecomers!!!

Eat  breakfast at home if you must, but be aware that we will be serving some serious morning snacks as soon as we leave Santa Clarita for those who did the “wake and run”.

Take a “not-too large” case or bag---be sure you can handle it by yourself!   Bring layers to deal with all temperatures.  This is a relaxed, not “ dressed up” trip so comfortable clothes and walking shoes are in order.

Your trip includes 4 meals and a snack, overnight accommodations, tour expenses and tips.  Come monetarily prepared for any miscellaneous spending opportunities.

PLEASE BRING A SENSE OF ADVENTURE AND A FUN LOVING SPIRIT!!!!
THE PARTY BUS IS READY TO ROLL!
