Monthly Updates - October 2015

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Welcome Fall!

I don't know about you all but, I am finished with endless summer.  Being a San Francisco native (almost) I am ready for some cool weather and maybe some     beautiful fog.

September was a great month for Newcomers and Friends.  So much happening. The fashion show was a wonderful, fun gathering of 67 members and the   laughter and comradery was delightful. I sent “A Hundred Thousand Thanks” to everyone who modeled, decorated, planned, and attended.

Now we head into October where Grace Elliott (Programs), the Luncheon Ladies and  the ‘Cruise Troupe’ has more great things planned for us.  I understand that the October Luncheon at Rattlers BBQ is to be held for just $17.00 per person.  The Luncheon Committee met with the manager of Rattlers and at the end of the meeting we sampled the delicious chocolate cake that will be our dessert for the October Luncheon!  You don't want to miss out so, plan to attend.

I would love to see you join in on the Cruise fun that is being planned, sign up today!

In Friendship, Jodie Baker

September Luncheon & General Meeting:

Wow, the Zodiac Fashion Show was a spectacular presentation of a wide variety of clothing styles,       colors and design representing the varied signs of the Zodiac. Jodie and Janice emceed as the well       dressed and exquisitely accessorized models sashayed around the room for the appreciative audience.       The ladies enjoyed the new venue, HIlton Garden Inn, and their delicious lunch, especially the           desserts! Joyce Brady provided beautiful Zodiac themed centerpieces that were raffled off. Jodie very             generously gave everyone pieces of gorgeous vintage jewelry that belonged to her family. They now         have found new homes! Thank you Jodie!!! The Cruise Troupe, Jeannine and Barri Boren, performed a     clever skit with a Zodiac theme to promote our cruise!

Leisure (Senior?) Olympics

N&F’s Leisure (Senior?) Olympics Games for 2015 are now closed. All of our members who were able to attend the games had a FABULOUS time! Yes, it was hot but the temperature had dropped by more than 10 degrees Fahrenheit from the previous day’s high. After the opening ceremonies and the traditional march of the teams, everyone looked around the backyard and thought they had stumbled into a 5-star spa. Thank you to our gracious hostess Diane Millikin and thank you to our anonymous benefactor for ALL of the donations including the cosmetic bags filled with prizes for the winners.

Do we still hear the cheers and see the MAGICAL bubbles floating past our heads? Thank you to Donna Jones our captain of the cheerleading squad and to her cheerleaders who both cheered and stepped in for the athletes who went on injured reserved. Thank you to the fearless captains of our teams – Kitty Zimmerman, Diane Millikin, Wynn Weber, Ann Pfeifer, Jodie Baker, and Rosalyn Glenn.

And how could we forget to say thank you to our fair and impartial judges – Barbara Michael, Luana Law, and Carol Costin – or to our official Olympics’ photographer Nancy Andrews. We are PROUD OF ALL OF OUR SENIOR ATHLETES and especially proud of the AWESOME “Daring Damsels” who took 1st place over 5 other teams.  Will they wear their ROYAL BLUE team shirts to the next N&F luncheon??  Come to the luncheon and see for yourself!

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear,
an honest compliment or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn
a day or a life around!

Tea Ladies

September featured 'Tea with the Queen' at the home of Marjorie McKenna. There were plenty of Photo Ops for fans who wanted their pictures taken with Queen Elizabeth!

We enjoyed a fun quiz that challenged our memories with details about some old Nursery Rhymes.  Some were unfamiliar to a few of the guests (including me) and others required us to know more than just the first verse to find the correct answer.  We had so much fun and laughs, that it was decided to give a prize to the person with the fewest answers as well as to the overall winner.

I would like to again remind everyone that I have sign-up sheets for every month in 2016, and they are starting to fill up!  Please let me know ASAP if you want to be added to the guest list for any month.  I always have a waiting list if the guest list is full.
As always, if you want to attend any of the Teas, please contact me either by email at jmw2kdsdog2@yahoo.com or phone: 661-255-1619.  If the guest list is full, I always have a waiting list.
