                                                  GIFT OF GIVING

Food staples/canned goods will be collected at the November luncheon for "HELP THE CHILDREN".  They work in conjunction with the Food Pantry to distribute food to those in need in our community.  Also, those little toiletries you receive from travels can be brought any luncheon I'm attending for DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.  If collected only once a year it becomes overwhelming (one year seven (7) storage boxes were filled to the brim) .   Storage for them and me became a problem so two (2) or three (3) times a year to deliver is better and so appreciated.  All donations are given from individual members.

Opportunity Drawings at the Luncheon!

Join in on our “Opportunity Drawings” fun!  Bring a new gift to be raffled off at the Luncheon and receive one ticket. You can also buy extra tickets to win a fun prize, including money and gift cards. The first 3 winners receive cold hard cash! The 4th prize is a gift card purchased by the club.  After that it's a grab bag of items brought in by members!

In the spirit of giving, please only bring gifts that are new and unused, with a value of $5-$10. Please no 'white elephants' or other gifts that you yourself would not want to receive.

This announcement is to be sure you know that you must send in your reservations no later than the SUNDAY before any Newcomer and Friends luncheon that you want to attend.

Late reservations can no longer be accepted and the best we can offer you will be a place on a waiting list in the event that someone cancels their reservation. If that doesn't happen, sadly, you will not be able to come to the luncheon!

We had “relaxed” this policy for some of you in the past and had occasionally accepted reservations after the deadline Sunday. That will no longer be possible because our current restaurants will not accept any late reservations.

Tablescapes Contest at the November Luncheon!

A ‘tablescape’ is where you create a dining table setting around a theme and decorate the table you will eat at. We would like to have 10 teams for the November luncheon, with a maximum of 5 ladies per team. Design a table setting around your theme; fun, elegant, holiday, movies/TV, books, events etc. Call Joyce or Diane if you have an idea for a theme so that you get your first choice (no duplicated themes allowed) and if you have anyone you want to work with let us know.  Interested but don’t have a theme? Call us and we will match you up with other ladies looking to form a team.  Either way, join in the fun!

Create your table setting around your theme and include: a centerpiece, written menu, favors and themed items for tablemates to wear, optional ideas: placemats or costumes even.  There will be 5 team members at the table and 3-5 guests joining you so plan something that incorporates your guests into your theme.  You will not need a tablecloth, dishes, flatware, glassware, etc. as we will be decorating the actual tables we eat at so the restaurant will be providing the dishes, etc.  We have requested the restaurant to use white tablecloths and white napkins to go with any theme.  We plan to be a Le Chen with round tables that seat 8-10.  Put your effort into your centerpiece and small touches for the table and how your team members match the theme.

Judging criteria:  Creativeness, Uniqueness, Menu, Theme representation, Eye appeal.

Questions/sign-ups:  Joyce Brady or Diane Millikin

Make 2018 the Year You Master Mah Jongg

Beginning on Monday, January 8, 2018, 1:00 to 3:30 p.m., and lasting for six consecutive Mondays, seasoned Mah Jongg player Diane Gilden plans to open her home to members who are interested in learning/brushing up on their Mah Jongg skills. Her past experience as an instructor of Mah Jongg has shown that people learn better and learn faster in a group of lessons that are held close together to facilitate reinforcement and aren’t dragged out over a number of months.

Class size is limited so, if you are interested in this opportunity for Newcomers, act fast to register or to get more information.

More details will follow once I know about how many of you will be participating.  Each person will be asked to bake approximately 4 dozen cookies.  This year, we are going to try something a little new, and ask those of you who are feeling adventurous to try a new recipe.  We are willing to be your guinea pigs!

A light lunch will be served.  Please RSVP via email or phone: or 661-714-1117.

I am looking forward to seeing you there!

" The Poetry Of Fashion Lies In The Creation Of Illusion”

On February 8th, 2018, at our Luncheon and General Meeting, you will be entertained by Valarie Lunt who will present “Coco Chanel- Women in History”. Following lunch our members, along with special guests, will walk the runway featuring actual Chanel fashions along with illusions of Chanel’s fashion looks. This will be an amazing event and you will not want to miss a moment of it. The luncheon will be held at Knollwood Country Club beginning at noon.

There will not be a raffle because many beautiful door prizes have been donated for this event. Guests are welcome.

Speaking of guests, we are told that there will be quite a few. We encourage our
members to sign up quickly. A map to Knollwood will be available at the January luncheon.

                            TEA LADIES

We enjoyed a wonderful Tea at the home of Sandy Enerle. Her tables were set for Fall, with some subtle references to Halloween thrown in here and there. We worked on a very cute craft, making refrigerator magnets out of live succulents which we planted in corks and decorated with stickers and moss etc. What a cute and different idea!

We are taking Tea signups for 2018, so if you are interested or want more information, contact me ASAP to sign up. Janice

Mexican Train Dominoes

This game is held at the IHOP restaurant which is located on Lyons, near the I-5 freeway. We start playing at 10:30 am and take a break around noon to order lunch and eat together.

We play till about 2 pm. If you are a new member, this is a great way to start getting involved with your Club and to meet new friends. If you are a long time member, come have fun with old and new friends. We would love to have you.
