Monthly Updates January 2011

President’s Letter

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2011 IS HERE AND I HOPE YOUR HOLIDAYS WERE
EVERYTHING YOU WANTED AND EXPECTED!!

Not much to say except - another year - another year older and believe me when I say "deeper in debt".  But at this age who cares!

The luncheon at the Odyssey was excellent - and very well attended - all were dressed nicely for the holidays. Gifts were raffled off and tables decorated beautifully by Jeannine Boren.  The entertainment was very much appreciated - thanks to Dixie Peterson and Millie Ginsburg.

At the next Board Meeting and Luncheon - we will be taking names for a NOMINATING COMMITTEE for our New Board in May of 2011.  So please put your thinking and visual caps on and put in names for our successors.  Look both to your left and right and across from where you are sitting and perhaps put that person’s name down for selection if you think they may be interested.

Once again HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011 - AND MANY MORE TO COME.

LORRIE KUROWSKI

Vagabonds

JANUARY, 2011
A New Year brings with it time for new ideas and new travels.

We are highly encouraged by our successes of 2010.  Every trip we planned was warmly received, enjoyed and brought us well over the number of members required for minimum participation.

When each trip was over, we were delighted by the thoughtful notes, the calls and the praise many of you generously lavished upon us.

There are a few special people who have helped us by volunteering at just the right time.  You know who you are, we know who you are-—and we thank you for all you have done to contribute to our success.

The Vagabonds are eagerly looking forward to some new adventures.  Keep an eye on the Website—and the Web News for upcoming trips.

UPDATE on Christmas Party Bus trip
Remarks from a Happy Traveler!

Another amazing event presented by the Vagabonds!  A nostalgic and unique holiday experience was enjoyed by the lucky Newcomers who took the Party Bus December 15th.  The mystery "Bonus Stop" was a visit to the Dominguez Adobe Museum in Rancho Dominguez. This museum is the gift of the Dominguez family that received the very first California land grant in 1784.  The original  grant was for 75,000 acres. It was also the site of the first Air Meet in the U.S. in 1910 and is credited with fostering the aeronautical industry in California. It was an intriguing and historically enjoyable visit.

Then we were on to the Admiral Risty Restaurant in Rancho Palos Verdes for a gourmet lunch.  Our final stop was the Old Town Music Hall in El Segundo. We enjoyed a musical performance on the Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ, followed by a really fun sing-along of Christmas music.  The final event was the opportunity to view the nostalgic old movie "White Christmas" with Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney and Danny Kaye.

In true holiday spirit, $160.00 was collected for Toys for Tots by combining the proceeds of a bus holiday decoration auction and many generous donations.

A great day presented by our great Vagabonds ladies!  Thank you Alyce Kesselman, Sharon Welch, Gia Cabaret and Marge Eveland who pitched in to make it such a great day!!
