President’s Letter

FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER 2011 - FROM LORRIE KUROWSKI

FIRST AND FOREMOST HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

My January Newsletter had a glitch in it and did not print so, so sorry.   Well now I am winding down with my position.  I had a little bout with a carotid artery but I am all better.  I am currently getting more oxygen to my brain - you all can be the judge if I make more sense than I have in the past.

First I want to say a big - THANK YOU TO DONNA JONES for chairing the January Board Meeting and the Luncheon.  I have heard nothing but Kudos on a job well done by my vice-president.

Start of the year January Luncheon at my favorite place was well attended 46 guests - all went terrific.

All members are ready and able to get started nominating a new board.  Many members are eager to fill positions and help out if an alternate is needed.  I am so pleased with all the results, this CLUB most certainly runs itself well
with the support of the members.

February Luncheon will be at LaChene with a Valentine's Day Theme.  I am truly looking forward to the Luncheon.

May all your problems be minimal and hopefully disappear in the New Year - wishing everyone well until we see each other again for the February Luncheon - thank you all for your cards, phone calls and good wishes

BARBARA FERONE will be hosting the FEBRUARY 2nd, 2011 BOARD MEETING AT 1 PM at her home - please call her by phone to have a chair available for you.  No call - no chair.  Thank You

Board Meeting - January 5, 2011

Important Announcement:  To all Mexican Dominoes players.

After seven years I have come to the decision that it is time for me to retire as the host.  The last 7 years has been a great experience and I will have great memories of the fun times we shared.  February will be the last time I will host this game,  I am hoping that someone will volunteer to continue in my place, if anyone is interested please contact me and I will be happy to help in the transition.  If no one wants the job then the game will be shut down.  Thank you all for your loyalty and support thru the years.

FEBRUARY 2011-------WEB NEWS-------VAGABONDS

Giovanna Cabaret, Alyce Kesselman, Sharon Welch

Is there anybody reading this who does not like money?  If so, STOP and read no further.  For those of you who do, then we want you to join us on our next exciting trip that we have nicknamed:

“FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY”

Come and join us on Monday, MARCH 14th, when we will be boarding our bus at 9:30 A.M.  To start our day, we will go to a French restaurant, which has delighted diners since 1927, to enjoy a delicious three-course French Country feast.  We will then visit the most secure building in Los Angeles, our branch of the FEDERAL RESERVE BANK.  We will take a tour and see how the country’s central banking system functions.  We will be shown everything from newly-minted money in the vaults to recently shredded bills.  There are also interactive exhibits (in one of them, you can try to see if you are able to spot a counterfeit bill), a film and many displays to entertain and educate us.

Followed by the tour, we will proceed to the Wells Fargo Museum where we will learn more about the gold rush times and fascinating history of the Wells Fargo Bank from its founding in 1852 to its presence in the electronic age.  No samples here – not even a bit of dust from their two-pound gold nugget!

This excursion will cost $62.00 per person.  We have been limited to taking only 32 interested Newcomers.  Please call Sharon Welch to tell her you are going and send (or give) her a check (made out to her) immediately.  Because of the limited time until the trip, we need to know and receive the money ASAP.

Sunshine

Get well wishes to our president Lorrie Kurowski, wishing you a speedy recovery from your recent surgery. We miss you!
We would like send get well wishes to Gia Cabaret.  We hear that she is recovering well from her recent surgery.  Our prayers are with you and we can’t wait to see you again.

We would like to express our deepest sympathy to Sharon Connor’s for the recent loss of her father.  He was 100 years old.  What an interesting life he must have had.

If you or anyone your know has a special celebration or an illness, please send the information to our Sunshine chairperson, Charlotte Pitts, so that she can send them a card and include them in our monthly updates.
