Monthly Updates - February 2013

President's Letter

Happy Valentine's Day, Dear Newcomers and Friends.

History lesson of the day: St. Valentine lived in the third century A.D. It is wonderful that we continue to celebrate a day of love every February 14th, even in this hectic, fast paced world we live in.

Before the day goes by, I urge you to say "I love you" to someone special in your life.

Be good to your heart. Heart disease is the number one health risk for women, so I'm told. Take small steps every day to be good to your heart. Eat better and move your body. Walking is great exercise. Park your car (during the day) far from the door. Laugh more and practice counting to ten when you're stressed. Deep breaths help, too. Do these things for yourself and those you love.

We will continue our work of electing new board members in the months ahead. As per Article 14 in our By-Laws (found on the website or can be read in your hard copy), Committees are listed, again in Article 14, as well as descriptions of the duties. Please look it over and consider how your talents can support our wonderful club. I look forward to many new board members in 2013-2014.

The following positions are available:

2nd VP - Membership
Secretary
Social Committee: 2 - 4 ladies

Vagabonds: 2 - 4 ladies
Historian

Let your talents show!

December Toy Donations:

Thanks to all you generous ladies we donated many new toys for the Toy drive. It was a very gratifying experience to deliver them! We took them to the Sheriff’s Station and I went in saying I had toys for them. They said "oh just bring them in and put them in the little toy house that’s in the lobby." Told them they wouldn’t fit through the tiny slot and would probably fill the box. Went out to start bringing them in and a deputy followed us out to see, he couldn’t believe it! Well, four of us made many trips just putting them onto the counter so they could put them in the back.

Oh, and during our December luncheon at TPC, another man was watching us load the car and gave us a $20 bill, saying he didn’t have a toy, but he wanted to contribute! I purchased an additional two toys to donate!

Just thought you would like to know the joy we brought to many, Many children this past Christmas!

I encourage new members to come out and join us. It's a great way to meet people and it's a fun game! And, if you don't know how, we'll teach you!

AFTERNOON TEA GROUPS

Hello and Happy Valentine's Day to all. May your hearts be light and full of love.

A delightful January Tea was held at Kitty Zimmerman's home and a full house it was. Since January was National Hot Tea Month, the ladies were challenged by a tea quiz. Do you know which country was the first to have Tea Rooms open to the public??? Everyone had an afternoon of laughter and companionship. Thank you Kitty!

The February Valentine Tea is coming up and once again we have a full house. BUT, fear not, as March is right around the corner and those who wish to join in on the fun can sign up now. Please call Jodie Baker to reserve one of the "best seats in the house." We can invite a total of 14 ladies. The March tea will be at the home of Pat Oguss.

"Come let us have tea and continue to talk about happy things."
