March Monthly Updates - 3/11

Monthly Updates March 2011

President’s Letter

MARCH NEWSLETTER 2011 - FROM LORRIE KUROWSKI

I hope all the Members had a very wonderful Valentine's Day - The luncheon at Le Chene was delicious.  I took the opportunity to enjoy my complete meal. There was a buzz in the room. All the members were in good company. I am currently winding down my position.

The positions that need to be filled are:

HISTORIAN (this job consists of taking pictures of club luncheons, outings, board meetings and some activities).  It also needs someone who is familiar with scrapbooking.  You do get a budget to work with and create a Photo Album for the new President taking office for 2011-12.  If you have someone you work with it can be filled with 2 members to show their creativities.  Anyone interested or needing more info - please call me.

LUNCHEON PROGRAMS (this job consists of having a program at a few of the luncheons).

ACTIVITIES (this position consists of planning a few activities during the year that are open to our members to get together socially).

If any of these positions look interesting to you or you need more info - please call me.

We still have programs to enjoy such as Vagabonds "For the Love of Money" scheduled 3/14/10 and the Spring Fling Party on the 17th of April.  Please support these activities - see you all at both.

I will leave with two anonymous proverbs:

VISION - Some people see more in a walk around the block than others see in a trip around the world.

EFFORTLESS - The only thing that comes to a person without effort is old age.
Have a lovely month - till we meet again - Lorrie

NEXT BOARD MEETING WILL BE
AT LAURA STARR'S HOME @ 1 pm MARCH 2, 2011.

Please call her if you plan to come. (see directory).
Don't forget no call - no chair.

Our MARCH luncheon will be at the Valencia Country Club. Remember if your birthday is this month we have a special gift for you.

Newcomers and Friends – Moving on and moving forward!

Have you looked at our website, ncandf.com, lately? If you have, then you know it is available in a timely fashion and full of the information Newcomers need.  We can depend on it to provide us everything the mailed newsletter did, and even more!

Our members can now access the website to get up-to-date details on the luncheon, board meeting, activities and any other necessary information.   All  the information you need can be printed directly from the website by clicking the print icon on the page. You can even make luncheon reservations on line!

The website is now easy to use and successful.  The board wants to encourage as many members as possible to utilize our website as our new means of communication.

Therefore, at the February board meeting, our board voted on and approved the following change:

As of July 1st the newsletter will no longer be mailed  to all of our members.
For those members who do not have access to the internet we will offer a 1st class mailing of the information pages printed directly from the website  For this service, there will be an additional fee of $10.00 added to the membership fee of $30.00for a total of $40. 00

This move forward will help us reach out to all our members more quickly and efficiently!  We look forward to the many possibilities to improve our effectiveness and to improve our communication to our members and potential new members!

Our next trip, is on Monday, MARCH 14, 2011

If you have wisely reserved for this adventure, plan to board our comfortable coach at 9:30AM.  As usual, we will be leaving from the 24 hour Wal-Mart on Carl Boyer Drive.  Please park on the far right (grocery side) towards the back.

Our “ooh–la-la “lunch will be delicious AND early since it is our first stop.  Plan your breakfast accordingly!!!  There will not be any food or beverage served on the bus this time.

We should be returning to Santa Clarita at about 5:30PM.  We are at the mercy of the traffic which will determine the actual arrival time.

If you have not returned your lunch choice and release form, do so immediately.  You can give (or mail) it to Sharon Welch or Alyce Kesselman.   Be sure to give us your lunch selection or we will be forced to choose for you!!!!

If you have not signed up for this very interesting trip, and would like to go, please contact Sharon for a place on the waiting list.

ANOTHER EXCITING TRIP IS PLANNED FOR
TUESDAY APRIL 26, 2011

How does this sound????   Our grand day “on the town” starts when we explore the LA Flower Mart.  It is the largest in the United States and one of the leading suppliers of flowers locally and around the world.  There, we will have a fully guided tour.  We will have the opportunity to visit with the vendors and pick up some blooms at discount prices.  Then, we shall indulge in a tasty lunch followed by a visit to the garment district.  Transportation is by comfortable coach with lots of room to tote the bags of bargains we buy.

Cost for the guided tour, lunch, transportation and all tips will be $76.00.

Send your non refundable check made out to Sharon Welch to her (see directory for address) to confirm your reservation.  Deadline to sign up is March 17.  However, if the quota is filled before that you will be put on the waiting list.  Do yourself a favor—sign up early!

Sunshine

We would like to send our prayers to Betty Grispino due to the recent illness in her family.

We would like to wish Elaine Klone a speedy recovery after her surgery.

We hope that Laurie Prince is feeling better soon.

We wish Grace Elliott a speedy recovery.

A special thank you Newcomers and Friends: I cannot thank you enough for all of the calls, cards, flowers and gifts I received during my recent surgery.  I am recovering slowly and doing well.   Your concern and care were overwhelming, and very much appreciated.  Each and every one of you is very special to me.
Grazie (Thank you)!  Giovanna Cabaret

If you or anyone your know has a special celebration or an illness, please send the information to our Sunshine chairperson, Charlotte Pitts, so that she can send them a card and include them in our monthly updates.
