Monthly Updates - 5/12 May 2012

President’s Letter

We are well into April and Spring has long since sprung.  The tulips have bloomed and the trees have sprouted leaves; we are on our way to summer.

We had a wonderful luncheon, at the Valencia Country Club, with the Singing Sisters entertaining us with songs of the 60's.  It brings back old times when we rocked to those songs.

May 10th we will have our Installation Luncheon at the Valencia Country Club.  We will install our new President Donna Jones and her board.  Please join us for the festivities and see the old Board off and the new Board in!  We are asking you to wear either purple or yellow to honor Donna, as they are her favorite colors.

I have had a wonderful year and thanks to all of my Board Members.  You have done an outstanding job helping me with this year’s agenda.

SOCIAL CLUB
SOCIAL CLUB  UPDATE

First, your social club hostesses would like to thank you for your attendance at the March event at the historic Greystone  Mansion in Beverly Hills. The weather was beautiful as were the grounds and mansion. After the tour we all enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Junior's Deli in Westwood. Hopefully a great time was had by all.

SAVE THE DATE. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27 11:00 AM

For our next outing, we will be taking a 1 ½ hour guided bus tour of the Van Nuys airport, located at 16461 Sherman Way in Van Nuys. The tour will take you on a captivating journey of aviation, past and present. Our last stop on the tour is the fire staton on the airport grounds, giving you a close look at and an explanation of their station and the city's emergency response equipment.

After the tour we will lunch at the 94th Aero Squadron restaurant, adjacent to the runway at the airport. The restaurant is styled as a french chalet with memorabilia from World War II. While you're dining you can watch planes land and take-off and listen to the tower traffic with the provided earphones.

As always, you may bring your friends, husbands or whomever, over 18 only please. You will be required to provide your own transportation.

Only the first 33 will be able to attend. The tour is free, however there will be a $5 charge to hold your place.  This money will be donated to the LA City Fireman's relief fund.  Please send your check to Dorothy Karnes, 20152 Northcliff Drive,Santa Clarita  91351.

If you have any questions, please call:

MAY WEB NEWS ----VAGABONDS

Giovanna Cabaret, Alyce Kesselman, Sharon Welch

This is the last month of our service as Vagabonds—we thought.  The time had come to leave the work, the angst and the fun to some others—we thought.    But, you were all thinking too and somehow managed to talk, con, persuade and flatter us into doing yet another year.  So------ we will be “vagabonding” with you well into 2013!!!

We have many faithful followers who we appreciate very much because they are the ones that spur us on. This coming year we hope to convert some of our less involved members into believers and give them the opportunity to join us and find out just how much they have been missing.

Before we start actively planning, we would like to solicit your help.  Is there some place on your “bucket list” that we could all enjoy together?  Do you have a bright idea for a day or an overnight trip?  Please contact any Vagabond –by any method—and clue us in!  All suggestions will be gratefully received and discussed before decisions are made!!

We hope you all have a Spring and Summer filled with happy travels!!!!

With the arrival of Spring it is great to have lots of positive information.  April did not bring any negative problems shared from our Newcomers.

Barbara Walker reported her Grandaughter, Julia, is doing well with her treatments and wishes to thank all those whose prayers have been greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to Jane Leach, whose beautiful grandaughter Kelsie, was awarded top honor in the swimsuit competition for the teen division in Palms Springs.

Mary Jane Frystak has undergone great concern for her son while he had an extended stay at UCLA hospital.  She is so grateful he is finally improved and is back home.

Peggy Schauer is now recuperating at home after extensive surgery and wishes to thank all her friends for their care and concern.

Please feel free to inform either Pat Culp or Mary Behnke if there is any good news or issues which you would like to be publicized.
