TWEAKING THE BY LAWS

The By Laws Have Been Tweaked!

The April Board meeting marked the conclusion of the year long discussion of our By Law revisions.  The process has been a wonderful example of how well this board has worked together. During many past months, each section was read out loud, discussed and voted on.

The intent of the revision is to make our By-Laws reflect current practices and to provide clearer guidance for our future. All members were actively encouraged to attend the board meetings and join in this process.

The board has approved the revision of April 2, 2015 and is embarking on the next step which is presentation to the general membership for approval. This will take place by voting at the next General Meeting/Luncheon on May 14, 2015 at Le Chene.

Please review the revised By Laws before the May luncheon and be prepared to vote on them at that time. To view them, go to the home page of this website, click on 'By Laws' to open. Scroll down to the new revision title in red.

We need you to be aware of these
By-Laws because when you are a member of Newcomers and Friends you are required to abide by them.

All By Laws can be found in the By Law section of this website The present By Laws have been left on for comparison.  Upon approval of the revised By Laws, the
new ones will remain on this Website and the old ones will be removed.

Thank you all for all of your assistance

Alyce Kesselman and Marlene “Mikki” Garside

Getting to know……..Charlotte Marton

This month I had the pleasure of getting to know Charlotte a little better!

Charlotte and her husband moved to the Santa Clarita area in 1968 for his job, but she didn’t hear about Newcomers until about four years ago through a neighbor.  She has thoroughly enjoyed getting to know and spend time with so many wonderful women!

Charlotte is currently on the opportunity drawing committee and has been so for the past 3 years.  She enjoys the luncheons and playing in several game groups.  She also belongs to a Red Hat group called Sassy Sisters, and reads a lot of books in her spare time.

She worked in the aerospace industry for 19 years as a shipping and receiving clerk.  Her husband passed away eight years ago, and joining Newcomers has been a tremendous experience and a great way to get
out and about with other friends with similar interests.  She has two sons and five grandchildren and says she loves living here!

Thank you Charlotte for sharing a bit about yourself!

Dear Newcomer Friends,

I have loved, loved, loved doing my Decorations 'job' all these many years (15?)!  Alas, I have decided it is time for me to retire. The special favors, unique treats, centerpieces, corsages and all the other decorations that I created for the Club has given me so much joy!  Both the creative process and then seeing your appreciation of them has been really gratifying. Thank you for indulging me as I tried to provide a little something special to our get-together's.

I will continue as a Hostess this next year and look forward to seeing you each month!

Thank you, thank you!
  Jeannine Boren

The April Luncheon was held at Margaritas Grill with a bounteous Mexican feast! Everyone was decked out in their cowgirl 'Boots & Bling' fashions to honor our unique Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival!
Charnell Tressel procured Mike Fleming, the Director of the Festival as our speaker. He regaled us with the Festival's history and why it will be held in Hart Park and downtown Newhall due to the top secret HBO project filming at Melody Ranch this year. He quizzed us and then awarded Festival posters as prizes! Jeannine provided western decor and treats to round out the fun. Hope you all went to the Festival!

APRIL GAME DAY

(Editor's note: The website may be published after the April 23 date for this event)

Mah Jongg Day

Diane Millikin is hosting a Mah Jongg Day at her home on Thursday, April 23, from 10-3.  Anyone in Newcomers is welcome to attend and a waitlist will be utilized if the demand is greater than the number of tables (currently planning on 4).  On that day, participants can discuss the possibility of forming a new monthly group if there is enough interest.  Please email or call Diane to reserve your spot or if you have any questions or suggestions for the day.  Participants should bring their own lunch, 2015 Mah Jongg card and game set if they have one to share.

MAY "MEETUP"

Hello ladies,
A "Meet up" is being planned for May 5th, a Tuesday. Those who would like to join in will meet at the Town Center theater to see a special film showing of the ballet La Fille Mal Gardee otherwise known as the Badly Guarded Daughter

This is a one time showing that begins at 7 pm and would run approximately 2 1/2 hours.  This is a joyful, fun ballet with brilliant choreograph by Frederick Ashton and starring Natalia Osipova. I have seen this ballet live on stage and loved it.

This film is from the 2014-15 Royal Ballet Cinema Season and offered by FATHOMEVENTS.com.  The ticket price is 15.00 for seniors and 18.00 for non seniors.  Well worth the price considering that live ballet performances begin at 100.00 per seat.  This is an event that both singles and couples would enjoy.  We could have dinner beforehand if we decide to.  Tickets can be purchased at the theatre.  Call me to sign up or if you have questions.  I am hoping to share this event with you!

Sunshine

*Surprise everyone!  It’s about time I stopped taking it easy and smelling the roses so that I could thank you wonderful friends who sent notes, cards, well wishes, prayers and even made phone calls to my family and to me while I was in the hospitals. Because of you and my family, I knew I had to work at getting my health back and start living my life again.  Wow, I now realize how lucky I have been to have the friends and family I have.  Thanks so much again.
Love to all,
Sharon Welch

*Eileen Kircher sends everyone her heartfelt thanks for all the calls, cards and well wishes she received following her recent surgery.
