Monthly Updates - 8/11

President’s Letter

August 2011

I would like to thank Karen Forte for coordinating a fabulous monthly luncheon at Marie Callender's.   The event was executed with such finesse but most importantly enjoyed by all who attended.  Again thank you Karen for a job well done.

Summer is here and in full swing! The warm weather invites us to enjoy outdoor activities, all at the mercy of the sun. I would like to remind everyone to take the necessary precaution to prevent overheating and sun over exposure. Please use sun lotion with a high SPF and stay in the shade as much as possible.

Enjoy the rest of the summer season.

VAGABOND OCTOBER OVERNIGHT IS A GO!!
From Thursday, October 20 to Friday, October 21 the PARTY BUS comes alive again,   Vagabonds have planned a fantastic trip!!

Highlights of the trip:

A visit to the Maloof Residence and Discovery Garden.  Sam Maloof was acknowledged as one of the finest master craftsmen of our time. He designed and produced furniture with profound artistic vision for more than half a century.  His furniture is in some of the most important private collections in the nation and the permanent collection of the Boston Museum of Art, the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian and many other fine museums. He designed and built his home and studio which is now in the national Register of Historic Places.  A docent will show us the treasure filled rooms and woodshops and we will be able to see the gorgeous landscaped areas. This will be a unique experience for all of us.

A stop at an historic olive ranch which is home to a well known brand of olives that have been grown and produced by the same family since 1894.  We will be able to tour the olive processing facility and visit their gourmet gift shop.

An exciting tour, in a surprising venue, that reaches back into the past. You will be amazed, delighted and entertained by this one!

Additional features yet to be determined.

Included :

Overnight stay in a double room at a very nice hotel with breakfast.

Two lunches:  One at a “Ristorante Italiano” which features a beautiful dining room decked out with paintings and etched glass The other at a very famous Southern California spot.  Dinner at a Vagabond Favorite restaurant.

Price of $245.00 includes bus, tours, hotel, meals, tips and surprises.

We are now keeping a waiting list.  If you want to go (and have not signed up and sent your check already) call Giovanna and ask her to put you on the list in case a space opens up.
