Monthly Updates - August 2015

" Why do we close our eyes when we pray, cry, kiss or dream?.......
Because the most beautiful things in life are felt by the heart."
Denzel Washington

Thank you to all the members who attended Irene Jansson's memorial service. Irene was a friend of N&F and contributed much to our club. Rita and Charnell, bless your hearts for sharing memories at the service.
I know she was your
friend and that it took much courage. It is so hard to say goodbye to a friend.

How wonderful to see 63 members talking and laughing at this past luncheon. The magician was fun and had some good tricks. The food was great, I cannot imagine anyone going home hungry. Thanks Alice for sharing some of yours.
I would like to say a few words in regard to the Mayor coming to speak at our August luncheon. The fact
that much will be
happening at the Luncheon and that time will be tight, our time will be limited for questions. Please try to keep your questions and discussion concise and to the point. It goes without saying that as members of Newcomers we will be polite and respectful. At this luncheon we will also be introducing and honoring our newest members.  They are a group of fun and friendly ladies. Come and meet them!

Things are humming along in the social and activity departments. New things coming up. New ideas being formed. . I have to give these chair persons a huge round of applause for all the work they are doing.......
for us. Sign up, join in, take part. I am quite
sure you will be glad you did. Also the weaving project will be available at the luncheon for you to add your creative touch.  It is looking very colorful and the creativity    that is appearing is taking on a shape of its own... Come and add your artistic ideas; it is easy and fun.

Lastly, I look forward to seeing all of you at the luncheon at the beautiful Paseo Club this month. Thank you to the luncheon
Committee and to Carolyn for making this possible.

In Friendship, Jodie Baker

"Friendship's Tapestry"

Wednesday, August 5, 1:00 pm at Jodie Baker's lovely home.
All are welcome. Please RSVP to Jodie.

In Memorium;

Our long time member, Irene Jansson, passed away after a long illness. Irene loved being a member of Newcomers, playing games and attending our Luncheons. Her memorial service was held in July with many of her Newcomer friends in attendance.

Our July Luncheon and General Meeting brought together 63  of our ladies to enjoy the highly entertaining magician Tim Jennings! He dragged Jodie Baker, Trish Mooring and Barri Boren up to the stage to help out with his amazing antics. There were a lot of "wow" and "how did he do that" with lots of laughter! Milly and Shauna announced more details about our 1st ever  "Friends A Cruising" cruise next April!  Everyone enjoyed the good food, fun and the raffle of the beautiful centerpieces and other prizes!

THE MORE THE MERRIER!  Our theme is “Friends a Cruising”.  Our Committee is busily planning our Club activities and details aboard the ship.  All you have to do is join us for fun and relaxation!

If you have never cruised, come on along! We can pair you with a roommate(s) and you will have the fun of being with our group for instant friends! Contact Barbara Ferone for roommate matchup.

Think of it as a floating resort hotel that takes you to special places you can explore!  It can be whatever experience you want everyday with the special camaraderie of people all on vacation!

Don't forget to bring your companion along. They too can join us for all of our awesome events.  Also included are the ship’s fine dining, Broadway shows, casino, fitness center, spa, shops, pool, movie theater as well as nightlife and all the many activities on board.

We are sailing on the Crown Princess on April 2, 2016 for 7 days!

Call Lisa, our assigned booking specialist, at 855-783-2600 to answer your individual questions   and make your reservations.  All Newcomers and Friends members and companions  must book through Shauna Hoffman to receive the benefits of the special Newcomers and Friends pricing   and Cruise package.

Remember, it is the time for us to enjoy and create lasting memories.

Any questions contact Milly Ginsburgh.  BON VOYAGE

Please see the "Friends A Cruising" special page  for all the details we have so far with many,   many  more to come!

The July Tea was held at Kay Moioffer's home, where we continued the holiday celebration by wearing Red, White, and Blue.

We talked about some of our worst haircuts ever, some of our worst dating experiences, something we would do if there was no possibility that we could
fail and some things that are still on our bucket lists.

We hope to see all of you at one of our upcoming Teas.

I now have sign-up sheets for every month in 2016, so you can sign up as a guest for any month(s) you would like to attend.  I have hostesses for January, February, March, May, and December of next year.

As always, if you want to attend any of the Teas, please contact me either by email at or phone: 661-255-1619.  If the guest list is full, I always make a waiting list.  If you are interested in being a Hostess or co-Hostess in 2016, please contact me as soon as possible.

***As one of the founders of Newcomers, It has come to my attention that some members are concerned about the last two paragraphs on our membership forms.  In and prior to 2008, we had an incident happen and we contacted an attorney to advise us.  He thought that we should put a disclaimer on our membership forms, which we have done.  This now protects our members and our Club.  For any further information please come to the next board meeting.  Members are always encouraged to attend and your input is important to us.

 Milly Ginsburgh

Please be advised that we will only publish personal or private information from members who wish to be acknowledged in our newsletters.

If you or anyone you know has a special celebration or an illness please send the information to Kitty Zimmerman Sunshine Chairperson, she will send them a card and, if given permission, include the information in our monthly Webnews.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear,
an honest compliment or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn
a day or a life around!

 August Birthdays

Happy Birthday to all our special ladies!

Come to the monthly Luncheon & General Meeting and you will receive a special gift!
