President's Letter

President’s Message for September

While enjoying a rare quiet morning, I was reflecting upon the many years I have been a member of Newcomers and Friends.  I joined our club in 2003.  Pat Passalacqua brought me to a luncheon, and I was delighted to join.  I thought about how grateful I am for the club, and how my membership has enriched my life.  It is my hope you feel that way too.  Many wonderful events of friendship and fellowship brought a smile into my heart upon remembering.  One thought went to another and I found myself humming a favorite song I enjoy singing.  It’s an oldie.  I think it is a perfect song reflecting Newcomers and Friends.

When You’re Smiling

When you’re smiling - when you’re smiling
The whole world smiles with you.
When you’re laughing, when you’re laughing
The sun comes shining thru’.
But when you’re crying - you bring on the rain.
So stop your sighing, be happy again.
Keep on smiling - ‘cause when you’re smiling
The whole world smiles with you.

I hope you are thinking of your own favorite songs about now.

In May when I was installed as your president, I invited you to “parade through life with friendship.”  Now I invite you to share laughter with some of my favorite quotes about friendship.

“A true friend is someone who thinks you’re a good egg even tho’ she knows you are slightly cracked.”  Bernard Millger

“One who looks for a friend without faults will have none.”  Hasidic saying

“A friend is one who knows us, but loves us anyway.”  Jerome Cummings

“Good friends don’t often see eye to eye, as long as they see heart to heart.”  Birthday verse I received.

Our next meeting will be in October followed by December, February and beyond. The limit is 12 persons.  R.S.V.P. to Ginger Freed as soon as possible, preferably in the evening.  Her phone number is in the directory.  Directions will be shared when you call.
We will be sharing delicious finger sandwiches, colorful salads, and fancy desserts. All enhanced by a specially arranged table setting of delicate center pieces, brilliant table silver and unique China service --  Reminiscent of early England.
Come meet with your Newcomer & Friends and make new friends.  Invite a guest who might like to join our clubs. Enjoy surprise entertainment, conversation and the graceful ambiance of the occasion.
Remember when as children we nibbled on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and pretended we were having a Tea Party?  We all have such fond memories of yesteryear.

We will be naming a QUEEN FOR THE DAY!!

GOOD LUCK---Maybe it will be YOU!!!!

You have seen San Diego—RIGHT?? -- WRONG!!

If you have not visited there with Vagabonds you have missed a lot of the city.

We have a fantastic overnight trip planned for
Thursday, Nov. 1 - Friday, Nov. 2, 2012.

Major Highlights include:
A live demonstration of how many varieties of pasta are made daily at the “San Diego Magazine’s 2010 and 2011 Italian Restaurant of the Year.”  Following Lunch (a choice from the freshly made pasta), a knowledgeable guide from Little Italy Tourism will show us the historic Italian community.  The neighborhood is filled with bargains, unique imports and heavenly food confections!

A tour in a boat with wheels!!   This unusual vehicle will take us on a 1 and 1/2 hour fully guided excursion which winds its way through many picturesque San Diego streets before splashing down for a cruise through the waters of San Diego harbor.

Minor Highlights:
Of course many will be included---there are always extras on a Vagabonds trip!

We offer an all inclusive price which includes transportation, all tours, a double occupancy hotel room, Breakfast, 2 Lunches, Dinner , all taxes AND tips for only $299.00.

Don’t miss this incredible opportunity!!!!
Sign up NOW!!

Call Giovanna immediately to tell her you want to be included.  She will e-mail a release to you which must be included with your NON REFUNDABLE check (made out to Giovanna Cabaret).  Your check secures your reservation.  Until she has it—you do not have one!!!

If you have a preference for a roommate, let her know when you book.  If not—we will be happy to find a suitable one for you.
When our participant limit has been reached, a waiting list will be started!
