President's Message

Greetings Ladies;

Welcome back to home town activities with Newcomers & Friends. Have you enjoyed a vacation or two this summer? Hope your summer activities have been enjoyable.

Many of us are fascinated while reading mysteries, romance, nonfiction, etc. Would you like to join one of our book reading groups?

Some members are intrigued with stories depicting mysteries of who done it, what was done, where was it done, when was it done, why was it done, how was it done. While reading about mysterious events one might enjoy guessing the outcome of the unfolding story.

Light hearted sensitivities or deep stirring emotions can be found in a romantic story. He she them, a combination of three or more persons creates dubious, tangled relationships among the participants. Observe an entanglement of emotions, situations, and challenges. Whisk yourself away into another space of heart fluttering encounters.

Some readers appreciate nonfiction. Are you a factual person? Maybe you like to read about notable persons, places of interest, historical events. You can sit in our own living room and be informed about the world beyond your front door.

Join one of our book reading groups to share opinions and details of your chosen story. There is something for everyone.

Pondering Thoughts: A shared memory of a trip, a gathering of friends and relatives, a visitation, a remembrance of a party can enrich the memory of your experience.

Nancy Andrews, President

***September’s Luncheon will be at El Trocadero Mesquite Steakhouse in the heart of Old Town Newhall. We have many ladies who want to learn Mah Jongg; Hand, Knee & Foot; Progressive; Pinochle and many other games.

‘NFFUN’ Begins!

Newcomers and Friends are offering an exciting new opportunity for members to get together for fun. If you want to socialize and/or eat, go places and do interesting things, this no fuss “go whenever the spirit moves you” group is for YOU…

Marlene “Mikki” Garside and Alyce Kesselman have volunteered to be the over-all coordinators and organize the first few events.

It is expected that input will come from members who are interested in seeing ‘NFFun’ succeed and that individuals (or teams of members) will suggest and coordinate future events.

You have probably already received a NFFUN e-mail. If you did not, call Alyce K. or Mikki G. to ask for a phone call.

Mexican Train Dominoes

You are invited to join us for a fun, social game of Mexican Train Dominoes. We play every month on the second Friday at 10:30 AM at the IHOP restaurant at 24737 Pico Canyon Rd in Stevenson Ranch. This is at the Lyons exit off of I-5.

This is the only game available to Newcomers & Friends that does not require a monthly commitment. This is a game that you can come to whenever you are available, no RSVP needed. Dominoes is a fun, but simple game that requires no prior knowledge in order to play right away. It can be shown to new players in just minutes.

We start the game at 10:30 AM and then stop around noon to order lunch and eat together. We go back to the game after lunch and usually finish by 2 PM. We play with four or five people to a table and we usually have between three and six tables. Each player brings $4. $2, from each person, goes to the waitress's tip and the other $2 is used for prize money for the game.

If you are a new member, this is a great way to start getting involved with your club and to meet new friends. If you are a long time member, come have fun with old and new friends. We would love to have you!

Tea Group

The Hawaiian Tea at Nancy Andrew's home was fun, colorful and just such a great time all around. The ladies were challenged by a quiz and a Hula Dance contest. We had three winners for the dancing. They had the Hula moves! Nancy is a great hostess. We look forward to the rest of the year.

The September, October and November Teas are full. However, the December Tea has a few openings left. Call if you want to come. It will be at Jodie Baker's home on the 2nd Tuesday of December.

A cup of tea to toast all of you!
