Monthly Updates - September 2014

President's Message

Greetings Ladies;

I want to thank all of the members who attended the last board meeting and heard Deputy Jonathon Wilson, from the Sheriff’s department, say that we could continue playing our games. We were reassured by him, in spite of Penal Code 330 P.C., that we would not be cited or implicated.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you at our 30th Birthday celebration.  Our goal was 100 attendees and we well over that.
Remember, what makes a friendship last is dedication and integrity.  This is the reason our club has lasted 30 years.  Congratulations members!

Milly Ginsburgh, President

"Friendships for Life"

Aloha Nui Nui!!!

Newcomers & Friends
is 30 years old this year!  Did you know that the Club
has never celebrated any of its anniversary's!  What a wonderful excuse for a big party!  From the eight ladies that met at Egg Plantation to start a 'Welcome Wagon' group, we have evolved to over 170 ladies as 'Newcomers & Friends of Santa Clarita'.  We have so many special memories, lasting friendships and amazing moments to celebrate!

Hele mei hoohiwahiwa, (come celebrate). We invite all members to come to our Hawaiian themed party!  Please read the important instructions below or on the Luncheon page!  Wiki wiki, (hurry, hurry) make your reservations by Sunday, October 5th, only a few more spaces available!  What could be more fun than an afternoon with your friends 'in Hawaii' celebrating the unique history of our Club!

***Special instructions for our October 9th,
'Aloha Nui Nui'
Birthday party!

This is a special event and different from our monthly Luncheon,
please read!

  1. Suggested attire is 'Island Resort Wear'; a suntan, grass skirt and coconut shells, Aloha blouse or Muumuu and anything in between!
  2. The party starts at 12:00 p.m. Entry will begin at 11:30 a.m. with absolutely no one allowed in early, except the assigned volunteers. This will allow us to get completely set-up for you, without distractions.
  3. To process the 100 plus ladies as quickly as possible, please pay by check, $25.00 made out to 'Newcomers'. This will allow you to go through the line faster.  You may also mail or give your check to Mikki Garside so she has it by October 7th.
  4. If you must pay by cash, exact amount please, $25.00.
  5. We suggest you meet and stay together in the check-in line with the friends you want to sit with, so you can sit at the same table. Please do not 'tilt' chairs to save spots,    this creates a walking hazard.
  6. Tables will be set for 10 and numbered. Several tables at the front will be marked reserved for those involved in the event.
  7. Do NOT bring gifts for the 'Opportunity Drawing' (raffle). The Club is providing all gifts.
  8. There will be both a silent and live auction, so you will want to bring your checkbook and/or extra cash.
  9. The collection of Toiletries for our charity project will take place in November.
  10. We have lots of fun things planned for you, so this party will probably last till dawn (kidding!), but it will go to 2:30-3:00 p.m. or so. We're celebrating 30 years in a couple of hours!  Don't make any other plans that afternoon or be in any hurry to leave, you might miss something!

"We didn't realize we were making MEMORIES,               we just knew we were having fun"

Wednesday, October 1st, 1:00 pm, at Jodie Baker's lovely home.
Please RSVP to Jodie to assure you have a chair.

We will be reviewing the By-Laws for revision among other discussions and planning
for this year.

30 years of Fun & Friendship!

So many wonderful memories of friendships, Luncheons, Vagabond Trips, parties, adventures          exploring around So-Cal, games galore, 'the Singing Sisters', skits and songs and a little dancing among many. Also along the way, a few trials and tribulations, growth and forgiveness, friends lost, hardships and tears shared. Our Club has been a haven and an escape, a sisterhood for so many, has brought smiles and laughter when it  was most needed.

This wonderful 'ode' is from the 2004-2005 Installation and I think, perfectly describes our Club                both past and present.
(to the tune of 'There is nothing like a Dame'.)

***News & Notes

Our September General Meeting and Luncheon was held at Backwoods Inn!  Everyone was greeted by two mystery 'Mime's' on the way in. They wore colorful poster boards promoting the big birthday party and 'mimed' silent invitations to the surprised ladies!  Who were those charming mime's?? The special day of '9/11' was honored with a heart felt remembrance from Milly along with a moment of silence. It amazes me how nearly everyone was directly or indirectly affected on that date!  We then enjoyed Steak, Ribs or Grilled Tilapia with all the fixings and great service.
Jeannine handcrafted paper boxes with candy surprise's inside for everyone. A fun and enjoyable Luncheon for all!

Kathy Kunkel and her co-hostess Kathy Hagemann set a beautiful table for our September Tea.

Guests were invited to bring a copy of their favorite recipe and to share little bit about it and why it is one of their favorites.  We discussed some fabulous recipes, including Cauliflower Pizza Crust, Lemonade Jello Mold, and Carrot Walnut Raisin Bread among others.

Donna Jones taught us all how to make fresh pasta (no bowl needed) as well as fresh gnocchi.  It was a lot of fun and very informative!  Thank you, Donna!

Next month's Tea will be at the home of our own wonderful Pat O. We can hardly wait to see what is in store for us there.

Here is hoping you will sip a cup of kindness and tea with us soon,  Jodie and Janice

If you are interested in joining us for Tea, please contact either Jodie Baker or Janice Weiner.  You can reach either of us via phone, email, or in person to be added to our Guest Lists.

The guest lists fill up quickly, so please contact us as early as possible.  We will place names on a waiting list when necessary.
