Monthly Updates - September 2015

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

What a fun and busy month August has been!  The Board Meeting was a lively meeting with much discussion and sharing of thoughts.  Thank you to all who voiced their opinions and who voted on  motions brought to the floor.  I appreciate that you are concerned  and want the best for our club.  We will be trying a few changes that have been brought up.  Thank you to Alice for "playing the Devil's  Advocate".  Thank you Jeannine Boren for always being there and for doing your job to the max!

Now on to September:  The Zodiac Fashion Show planning is humming along and our models are sure to WOW the audience as they portray the twelve Zodiac signs. Decorations Chair Joyce is already creating some theme decor for our event. The Luncheon committee has toured the Hilton Garden Inn and are pleased by the cooperation of the staff.  You don't want to miss the September Luncheon!

Thank you to all of our new members who attended our August Luncheon. It was great to have you there
and to be able to get to know you and to have you as apart of this 31 year old  club. To every member of Newcomers and Friends, we value your friendship and participation and love seeing you join in on all we do.

In Friendship, Jodie Baker

"Friendship's Tapestry"
SIX LITTLE STORI ES

1. Once all villagers decided to pray for rain, on the day of prayer all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella.

That's FAITH

2.  When you throw a baby in the air,
she laughs because she knows you will catch her.

That's TRUST

3.  Every night we go to bed, without any assurance of being alive the next morning but still we set the alarms to wake up.

That's HOPE

4. We plan big things for tomorrow
in spite of zero knowledge of the future.

That's CONFIDENCE

5.  We see the world suffering,
but still we get married.

That's LOVE

6.  On an old man's shirt was written a sentence 'I am not 60 years old....
I am sweet 16 with 44 years experience'

That's ATTITUDE

Have a happy day,
live your life like the six stories!

ACTIVITIES

New activity: Water Aerobics!

The first water aerobics class was much fun and a workout.
Five of us in the pool and one to observe; maybe she will get into the pool next time.

We talked about food to help rid ourselves of belly fat, our need for potassium the
right carbs, and just had fun in general as we worked out. After our work out we tasted jicama and organic heirloom tomatoes. Great snack food that is good for our bodies.

Want to join in?  Call for your place in the pool.  Jodie B

WHEN  -  Monday, Wednesday & Friday - 9:00 am - 9:30 am

WHERE  - JODIE BAKER'S  661-255-7701

ATTIRE -  BATHING SUITS or SHORTS and TEE SHIRT

The class will be held 2 or 3 times per week by experienced leaders Jodie and Donna.  Members must call to register.  Once signed up you may attend as able but always call ahead to ensure there is room in the pool.

Noodles will be supplied for class.  Bring hand weights (if you have them) and a towel.

***The Coffee Corner

Coffee Corner welcomes potential new members and current members for a morning of friendship at different locations around SCV. The event is scheduled on the third Thursday of the month.  New members are encouraged to attend as it is a great way to make new friends and find out about the Club's activities.

The September coffee will be held at IHOP, 26135 Bouquet Canyon Road on Thursday, September 17th at 10:00AM.

***Mexican Train Dominoes

You are invited to join us for a fun, social game of 'Mexican Train Dominoes'. Open to all members! We play the second Friday every month!

This is the only game currently available to Newcomers & Friends that does not require a monthly commitment or RSVP and is open to all members. Come whenever you’re available. Dominoes is a fun, but simple game that that you can learn in a few minutes and play right away.

Start time is 10:30 AM and we stop around noon to order lunch at a local restaurant.

We play till about 2 PM. If you are a new member, this is a great way to start getting involved with your   club and to meet new friends. If you are a long time member, come have fun with old and new friends.
We would love to have you! Contact me for location.

***TEA LADIES

This month, we enjoyed a refreshing 'Tea by the Sea' at the home of Pat Oguss.  Guests were invited to relax and Wear Resort Casual attire, and to come prepared to share a "fish" story.  Pat read a Russian Folk Tale, Donna J., Donna C., and Jodie shared stories, and Jeanne Iser shared some of her beautiful paintings of fish created on rice paper.  The tables were decorated with sea stars, shells, and glass bubbles, making for a very cool, relaxing atmosphere.

We have sign-up sheets for 2016, and you are invited to sign up anytime.  Some of the lists are filling rather quickly, so let me know soon if you would like to attend any of the Teas.  I still need a few hostesses for 2016.  If you are interested in attending as a guest, hostessing, or co-hostessing, please let me know as soon as possible.

As always, if you want to attend any of the Teas, please contact me either by email at jmw2kdsdog2@yahoo.com or phone: 661-255-1619.  If the guest list is full, I always have a waiting list.

Please be advised that we will only publish personal or private information from members who wish to be acknowledged in our newsletters.

Our long time member JOSEPHINE “JO” BLEECKER passed away after a long illness. Jo always had a smile on her face for everyone.  She loved playing mahjong with her friends, but most of all she loved her family, her sons - Mark, Gene and Terry, and her beautiful grandchildren.

If you or anyone you know has a special celebration or an illness please send the information to Kitty Zimmerman Sunshine Chairperson, she will send them a card and, if given permission, include the information in our monthly Webnews.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear,
an honest compliment or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn
a day or a life around!
