Monthly updates 9/16

Hi friends!

Summer is wrapping up.  That makes me sad, I for one, will miss the hot, sunny weather.  Those of you that have been lucky enough to live here longer are probably ready for cooler fall temperatures.  Me – I wish it lasted all year!

We are all thankful our friends impacted by the Sand Canyon fire are safe, ladies please know we are here for you and we were thinking about you.  If it’s going to be winter soon, I hope it will rain and make it safer for us all!  At least that will make up for it not being hot and sunny!

Our August luncheon at Marie Callender's was another lovely day put together by my great team. We enjoyed Jennifer Schwartz and her inspiring story of her realization that you ca do anything, more than you ever imagined, at any point in your life. It was also a chance for us to recognize ladies that were first time members of Newcomers and Friends. WE are grateful to all our past and present members for renewing- we are glad you are all with us this year!

Please be sure to continue to scroll down for this introductory letter after this introductory letter and read all the details about the upcoming events for the year. I'm going to list the dates for our Social and Explorers and some other here, but for more details, continue to scroll down on the newsletter page.

In closing, I want to thank my team/board members/chairladies and those working behind the scenes to make this a fantastic year.  I appreciate you all!

           October Luncheon and General Meeting

Tablescapes Contest at the October Luncheon!

A ‘tablescape’ is where you create a dining table setting around a theme. Get a few friends together and let’s have some fun! You can also join an existing team! Design your table around your theme; fun, elegant, holiday, movies/TV, books, events etc.  Themes that have been chosen so far are:  Halloween, Paris, Seascape, Southwestern and Beach. There are lots of ideas online, just search ‘tablescapes’ or go to ‘pinterest’.  Judges will select the winners and wondrous prizes will be awarded!

Create your table display around your theme and include: tablecloth (tables are a little larger than a card table), 2 place settings, written menu and centerpiece. No actual food is needed. We will be at Knollwood Country Club in Granada Hills for this Luncheon. Contact Muriel U. for more information!

Mexican Train Dominoes

You are invited to join us for a fun, social game of 'Mexican Train Dominoes'. Open to all members! We play the second Friday every month!

This is the only game currently available to "Newcomers & Friends"that does not require a monthly commitment or RSVP and is open to all members. Come whenever you’re available. Dominoes is a fun, but simple game that you can learn in a few minutes and play right away.

This game is held at the IHOP restaurant which is located on Lyons, near the I-5 freeway. We start playing at 10:30 am and take a break around noon to order lunch and eat together.

We play till about 2 pm. If you are a new member, this is a great way to start getting involved with your Club and to meet new friends. If you are a long time member, come have fun with old and new friends. We would love to have you.

Please contact me at 661-670-0395 with any questions.

About Our Website!

Newcomers and Friends has its own website on the internet.
You can go to the website, www.ncandf.com, at any time, 24/7 and read the latest news.  We update the website every month with new information including Luncheon info, the President’s message and all of our upcoming activities. Then we tell Shirley B. who sends everyone a "reminder" email letting you know that we have updated the information on the site.  If you do not receive these emails, or your email address changes contact Shirley. Like magazines, we update the webpage towards the end of the current month, for the next month. The exact day varies due to the many people involved and Godaddy our website manager/provider. If you have any questions or comments please contact your webmistresses/editors/writers Barri B. and Sandy E.
